Mile End Climbing Wall (MECW), the trading name of the charity Development through Challenge (DtC), is on the lookout for a skilled and dynamic Head of Instruction and Safety. This is more than just a role—it's an opportunity to inspire and oversee an incredible team, while upholding our top-notch safety standards.
About the Role
As our Head of Instruction and Safety, you’ll take charge of two key areas that keep Mile End Climbing Wall operating at its best:
1. Head of Instruction
You’ll be the driving force behind our coaching and instructional services. From designing and delivering engaging courses to recruiting and managing an enthusiastic team, you’ll make sure every program is on point. This includes overseeing the commercial course program to ensure it’s exciting, effective, and meets our high standards.
2. Head of Health & Safety
Safety is core to who we are, and as Head of Health & Safety, you’ll ensure that Mile End Climbing Wall continues to lead the industry in best practices. You’ll be responsible for all aspects of health and safety compliance, keeping up with legislation, and reinforcing our reputation for excellence.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re confident, detail-oriented, and ready to take the reins in a vibrant, busy environment. You know how to manage people and create a positive, productive atmosphere. With solid experience in line managing and hands-on, current expertise in climbing health and safety, you’ll bring both the know-how and the leadership to support our team.
Leadership & Delegation: You understand the balance between stepping up and letting others shine, empowering your team while guiding them with clarity.
Attention to Detail: With safety at the heart of this role, your meticulous approach will help us maintain our high standards.
Decision Making & Communication: Confident in making decisions, you’re just as comfortable sharing them and ensuring the whole team understands and feels supported.

Job Title: Head of Instruction and Safety
Reporting to: Centre Manager
Responsibility for: Coaches and Instructors
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Salary: £40,000.00 per annum
